Marvin Altom, DVM and Charlyce Altom
Dr. Altom’s bio:
I graduated from UNAM with my veterinary degree in 1979. I spent the next six years working as a mixed animal practitioner, gaining experience in equine, cattle, small animal, and emergency medicine.
Charlyce and I have never regretted moving to northern Nevada in 1981. Our children grew up here and still return to visit with our grandchildren as often as possible. We have come to know and love so many wonderful people. Reno has been good to us.
I’ve been providing veterinary care in the North Valleys of Reno since 1985. During those years, I had the privilege of working alongside excellent doctors and a talented, dedicated support staff. The past 33 years have been rewarding and busy!
Early in 2017, we decided to slow down a bit and move into a smaller facility. Valley Veterinary Clinic began seeing clients in April. People ask why I haven’t retired and my answer is… I still enjoy helping my clients! It’s a lot of fun seeing the pets of the children who used to come in with their parents. We have a great staff, and we enjoy working together to serve our patients and clients.
Marv and I have been married since 1974. We share a busy and wonderful life! I began working as a manager in veterinary medicine in 1995. I love taking care of the business side while Marv cares for his patients and clients.
Anna Lopez, DVM
I was born in Walnut Creek, California, but my family moved to Reno, Nevada in 1993. I consider myself a proud Nevada native! I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in animal biotechnology. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Altom, and I have loved medicine ever since that time. I received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2018.
I am so excited to be granted the opportunity to join such a rewarding profession and to have Dr. Altom as my mentor. My professional interests are small animal internal medicine and physical therapy/alternative medicine. I am very fortunate to be working with a wonderful veterinary team.
Outside of the clinic, you can find me with my German Shepard Nani, my two cats, Riley and Esmeralda, or in a CrossFit gym.
Megan Plateman, DVM
While I was in school, I worked as a veterinary assistant and technician. Before entering veterinary school, I worked at local veterinary hospitals, as a certified veterinary technician.
For my graduate degree or DVM, I went overseas to the University of Edinburgh, Scotland’s: Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. My husband and I lived over there for 5 years. It was an experience we both will not forget!
I enjoy working with not only dogs, cats, and ferrets, but with exotics, farm pets, and wildlife too. Including reptiles(non-venomous) like snakes, lizards, turtles and tortoises, birds of all shapes and sizes, rabbits, and pocket pets.
My particular interests are in the above, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and advances with diagnostic imaging and treatments in internal medicine. Continuing education in many avenues has always been exciting for me. My future goal is to work with endoscopy.
I enjoy being with my family, reading books, and traveling.
I look forward to meeting new clients and patients and continuing to grow with current clients and friends.
I am owned by three dogs, three cats, four daughters, two sons, and my best friend/husband. My hobbies include belly dancing with Reno World Dance, scrapbooking, knitting, and reading when I can squeeze it in. Audible is the best thing since sliced bread (in my opinion). Working with Dr. Altom at Valley Veterinary Clinic is wonderful, and I look forward to meeting all of your fur babies.
