Marvin Altom, DVM and Charlyce Altom
Charlyce and I have never regretted moving to northern Nevada in 1981. Our children grew up here and still return to visit with our grandchildren as often as possible. We have come to know and love so many wonderful people. Reno has been good to us.
I’ve been providing veterinary care in the North Valleys of Reno since 1985. During those years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside excellent doctors and a talented, dedicated support staff. Early in 2017, we decided to slow down a bit and move into a smaller facility. Valley Veterinary Clinic began seeing clients in April of 2017. The past 42 years have been rewarding and busy, and I still enjoy helping my clients! It’s a lot of fun seeing the pets of the children who used to come in with their parents. We have a great staff, and we enjoy working together to serve our patients and clients.
Marv and I have been married since 1974. We share a busy and wonderful life! I began working as a manager in veterinary medicine in 1995. I have loved helping with the business side while Marv cares for his patients and clients.
Anna Lopez, DVM
I was born in Walnut Creek, California, but my family moved to Reno, Nevada in 1993. I consider myself a proud Nevada native! I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in animal biotechnology. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Altom, and I have loved medicine ever since that time. I received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2018.
I am so excited to be granted the opportunity to join such a rewarding profession and to have Dr. Altom as my mentor. My professional interests are small animal internal medicine and physical therapy/alternative medicine. I am very fortunate to be working with a wonderful veterinary team.
Outside of the clinic, you can find me with my German Shepard Nani, my two cats, Riley and Esmeralda, or in a CrossFit gym.
Megan Plateman, DVM
While I was in school, I worked as a veterinary assistant and technician. Before entering veterinary school, I worked at local veterinary hospitals, as a certified veterinary technician.
For my graduate degree or DVM, I went overseas to the University of Edinburgh, Scotland’s: Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. My husband and I lived over there for 5 years. It was an experience we both will not forget!
I enjoy working with not only dogs, cats, and ferrets, but with exotics, farm pets, and wildlife too. Including reptiles(non-venomous) like snakes, lizards, turtles and tortoises, birds of all shapes and sizes, rabbits, and pocket pets.
My particular interests are in the above, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and advances with diagnostic imaging and treatments in internal medicine. Continuing education in many avenues has always been exciting for me. My future goal is to work with endoscopy.
I enjoy being with my family, reading books, and traveling.
I look forward to meeting new clients and patients and continuing to grow with current clients and friends.
Jim Robertson, DVM
I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada, where I am happily married to my person/husband, JR, with three amazing stepchildren! We have three canine kiddos: Hollie and Tacoma (both adopted Pit Bulls) and Ragnar (Golden Retriever), followed by one snake kiddo: Sly (Ball Python).
I’ve had a love for animals for as long as I can remember. I’ve worked in the veterinary field since I was fourteen when I started volunteering for Dr. Marvin Altom during my free time after school…the rest is history! I also have a huge love for helping the people attached to their pets and look forward to those interactions daily.
As for me personally, I am known for my love and passion for fitness and music; I’m a complete metalhead, and my favorite band is Killswitch Engage. I am also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, so in my free time, you will most definitely find me at the gym/running with my music and doing various activities with my family.
Client Care Supervisor & Inventory Manager
I have lived in Reno most of my life. My husband Josh and I met in high school but got married later in life. I have 2 amazing kiddos. My stepdaughter Ava always keeps me on my toes and my daughter Savannah who gives the word sassy a new meaning. We have 2 fur-babies, Jonesy, and Riley. They are super obnoxious dachshunds who like to eat anything and everything.
I have 9 years of experience working in a veterinary practice, most of which was working in reception. I enjoy getting to know people and I like talking so the job came naturally to me. I love the atmosphere in this profession and everything else that goes with it. I look forward to coming in to work every day knowing that I am here helping make a difference in people’s lives.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and seeing new things with my family, listening to music (festivals are SO fun!), reading (if I ever have a free minute), and playing with my kiddos.
Lead Veterinary Technician
I grew up in the Sacramento area, where I first developed my love for animals. I went to school in Fort Collins, Colorado, to earn my degree in Veterinary Technology. During school, I worked at the local shelter where we took in all domestic pets, from dogs and cats to birds and lizards. I moved to Reno after I graduated and passed my exams to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. I have loved my time at Valley Veterinary Clinic. The small-town feel of our clinic allows me to get to know pets and their people on an individual basis.
I have two fur-babies: Mocha is my rescue mutt, who you might have seen protecting the surgery center, and Obi, my one-eyed kitty. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors as much as possible. The mountains are my favorite, whether it’s skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. I hope to meet you and your critters soon!
